Ignore the critics. Embrace the criticism.

Sometimes people get really angry, upset and need to vent their spleen. And it is hard not to react to that anger and become defensive. We are all critics – whether it’s of food, wine, movies or Australian Idol – we’ve all got opinions. It’s just some are more vocal than others.

Sometimes people want to be a critic just to be noticed.

The challenge is listening for Gold in amongst all the emotion. Not reacting to anger and only hearing contribution takes strength, not weakness.

If you ask a room full of people how many like helping other people ? it is almost unanimous with every hand going up. If you then ask how many people like asking for help, almost no hands go up. Yet people love to help ? why is it so hard to ask for help?

I know that one thing that has truly caused our growth is being able to act upon the feedback that people generously give us.

Thanks so much ? and keep it coming.

  • It is also true for saying positive things about people. We are often happy to complement others. but when we receive a complement we dismiss it (and do not accept it). We should accept the complement.
In the same way, we should accept help. By accepting help, we are giving to the helper the pleasure of helping you.
