Thanks to my Generation Y friends …. the future is very exciting.

I hear so much talk about what Gen Y is up to ? or not, as the case may be. I hear Gen X and Baby Boomers complain “they don’t know what a hard day’s work is” or “You just wait until they experience an economic downturn then they’ll learn a thing or two.” (No hurry on that one please.)

But guess what guys? Generation Y is busy inventing the future. And quickly. The planet has never been so connected, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr and ThisNext to name a few… and this is just a drop in the ocean compared to what Gen Y will really get up to when they get into full flight.

This is a generation that is less interested in stuff and more interest in the meaning of life ? and it will be the generation that creates one planet ? not nations and nationalities. I have great faith. As long as we know when to get out of the way and let them get on with it.

  • Very insightful Blog Naomi! Sometimes the obvious is so in our face that we can't see it or can't see the value in it. Gen X's like myself traditionally think that we need more Gen x's around us because they think like we do and work like we do, but it is so true what you say, Gen Y's are inventing our planet and we need to get out of there way. I'm sure they will do a lot better job of creating a better future than we are.

  • Well said! I am a little tired of hearing the negative even though I am a Gen X. Frankly I am trying to look and learn from the irrepressible innovation, the intelligent leadership and the thinking process of the Gen Ys around me. They seem to do with ease a number of the things that I thought required hard work, study and lots of navel gazing.
